FLASS becomes Fédération Sport Santé

A new identity to support the growth of Sport Santé in Luxembourg

Strassen, July  2026

While Luxembourg has been experimenting with the prescription of therapeutic physical activity since January 2026 as part of a national pilot project, Fédération Luxembourgeoise des Associations de Sport de Santé (FLASS) is taking a new step in its development.

To mark its tenth anniversary, FLASS is adopting a new identity and officially becoming the Fédération Sport Santé. This change of name and visual identity comes at a pivotal moment for health-related sport in Luxembourg, marked by a growing recognition of the role of physical activity in the prevention and management of chronic diseases.

Founded in March 2016, the federation brings together Luxembourgish non-profit associations that offer therapeutic physical activities for people living with chronic illnesses. Accredited by the Ministry of Health and Social Security and the Ministry of Sports, the federation coordinates, develops, and promotes health-related physical activity in Luxembourg. For the past ten years, it has been improving access to supervised and safe therapeutic physical activity for people with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, neurological disorders, or other chronic conditions.

“For ten years, our mission has been to demonstrate that therapeutic physical activity is a powerful tool for health. Today, Sport Santé is increasingly recognized by healthcare professionals, institutions and patients. Our new identity reflects this evolution and our ambition for the years to come,” says Dr. Charles Delagardelle, President of the federation.

A PIVOTAL YEAR FOR SPORT SANTÉ IN LUXEMBOURG

Since January 2026, Luxembourg has been conducting a unique pilot project aimed at integrating physical activity into the heart of the healthcare pathway.

Led by a steering committee bringing together the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the Ministry of Sports, several partner institutions and our federation, this initiative allows certain trained doctors to prescribe therapeutic physical activity as a therapeutic complement in the management of certain chronic diseases (cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes).

Our federation played an active role in the implementation of this project and in supporting the healthcare professionals involved. Today, more than 100 doctors have been trained in prescribing therapeutic physical activity.

In practice, patients receive a medical prescription from a trained doctor and are then referred to the federation, which guides them towards the member organization and programs best suited to their situation.

This pilot project represents an important step in the recognition of therapeutic physical activity as an integral component of the management of chronic diseases in Luxembourg.

THERAPEUTIC PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: A CONCRETE IMPACT

Therapeutic physical activity is much more than just a sporting activity. Supervised by qualified/experienced professionals, it is adapted to the health status, abilities and specific needs of the participants.

The results observed in the field demonstrate the growing interest in this approach.

In 2025, the federation members recorded:

  • 25,274 participations in therapeutic physical activity courses;
  • 4,594 hours of classes delivered, which is more than 440 additional hours compared to 2024.

These figures illustrate the growing importance of health-related sport in the life journey of people living with a chronic illness.

A NEW IDENTITY FOR A STRENGTHENED AMBITION

On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, FLASS officially becomes the Fédération Sport Santé.

Simpler, easier to read and more representative of its mission, this new name reflects the evolution of the sector and the desire to strengthen the visibility of health sport among the general public, patients, health professionals and institutional partners.

The federation also unveils a new visual identity and a new logo, which reflect the values that have guided it for ten years: benevolence, commitment, community spirit, accessibility and innovation.

This new identity accompanies a clear ambition: to continue the development of Sport Santé in Luxembourg and to promote access to therapeutic physical activity for as many people as possible.

A FEDERATION SERVING PATIENTS AND ASSOCIATIONS

The Fédération Sport Santé currently has twelve members:

ALAN , ALD , ALGSO , Back2Sport , Blëtz , ERASMe , Fondation Cancer , Häerz Sport (ALGSC) , MSGOM , MSL , Parkinson Luxembourg and Think Pink Lux .

Together, they offer therapeutic physical activity programs designed for people living with, in particular:

  • cardiovascular disease;
  • cancer;
  • diabetes;
  • Parkinson’s disease;
  • multiple sclerosis;
  • obesity;
  • or other chronic diseases.

The Federation’s mission includes, in particular:

  • to develop and disseminate the concept of Sport Santé in Luxembourg, particularly in the context of secondary and tertiary prevention of diseases and pathologies;
  • to promote therapeutic physical activities by disseminating and multiplying the forms of practice offered to the public;
  • to promote, guide and coordinate systems and structures offering therapeutic physical activities and, if necessary, to manage them itself;
  • support the training efforts for instructors and other supervisory staff;
  • to promote excellence in good practices in therapeutic physical activity among its members; to support and value its members;
  • to represent its members before public bodies with regard to Sport and Health.

BUILDING THE NEXT 10 YEARS

Faced with the rise in chronic diseases and the resulting public health challenges, the Fédération Sport Santé intends to continue its commitment to patients, healthcare professionals, institutions, and associations. Its ambition is to contribute sustainably to the integration of therapeutic physical activity into the Luxembourg healthcare system and to enable every person living with a chronic illness to access an activity adapted to their needs.

Ten years after its creation, the Fédération Sport Santé is thus opening a new chapter in its history, with the same conviction as at its beginnings: movement is an essential factor in well-being, health and quality of life.
